The Mangunda has a small tender boat which can be used for closer viewing of game as well as fishing, swimming and snorkeling is only permitted on Lake Malawi and not on the shire river for your own safety, the Shire has a healthy population of crocodiles and hippo.

Example of a itinerary:

Depart from anchorage near the Liwonde Barrage and a leisurely cruise up the Shire River into Liwonde National Park, take in the beautiful views and the game along the rivers edge. Arrive at Mvuu Lodge/Camp early afternoon disembark and in time for lunch, afternoon game activities, (either a game drive or boat safari) dinner and overnight at Mvuu Camp. Following day early morning game activity followed by breakfast. Board the MV Mangunda late morning and start your cruise back down river, have lunch onboard. The Captain will find a spot to anchor in one of the lagoons for the night, dinner and overnight on the Mangunda. Following morning after breakfast head back for Liwonde arriving late morning.
